Summary
I watched with much interest the Auburn City Council meeting on March 6 as city officials continued their attempt to educate the public about the roles and programs of various city departments in advance of developing the city budget. This interest was unfortunately replaced by disbelief, dismay and disappointment as focus was diverted from budgetary/tax concerns by a minority of councilors intent on persuading the council to vote to violate the current and new city charters.
I was embarrassed and appalled by Councilwoman Rowell's rant to councilors opposed to doing so, asking them "What are you afraid of?" and accusing them of being part of "the good old boys," topped off by her invoking Jesus Christ to emphasize her position. This was totally inappropriate, and I feel she owes the mayor, the council, and the citizens an apology (we did elect the mayor and council).See the full content of this document
