Semi '07: A Night in Hollywood

Summary

Lights! Camera! Action! The Saint Dom's Annual Semi Formal was held on February 9, and had an unforgettable Hollywood theme. Everyone was dressed to the nines, even the cutout decoration of Marilyn Monroe that greeted people at the door. A golden Hollywood sign hung enchantingly from the ceiling while each table was home to a popcorn box loaded with candy treats for semi-goers. Movie posters and paparazzi pictures lined the walls at the Ramada, thanks to Student Senate's fabulous decorating job. Even a red carpet complete with lights was set up to usher in the court candidates during coronation.

For those of you who don't know, Semi-Formal is when Saint Dominic elects their king and queen, as opposed to many schools who do this at prom. The senior class first votes for seven males and seven females to stand on court. The vote is then opened up to the rest of the school where students and teachers alike are able to cast their ballot after reading the candidates page-long biographies and viewing their pictures. The candidates this year were exceptionally qualified, making it a tough vote for the school. St. Dom's Principal Mr. Fournier was present at Semi to introduce all of the court candidates and then announce the winners. This year's lady- in-waiting was Lisa Navojosky, while the gentleman-in-waiting was Joseph Theriault. The winning couple of 2006, Michela Fyler and Joe Vining, returned home to pass on their crowns to this year's queen, Chelsea Fournier, and king, Austin Fuller. Both seniors were all smiles as they hit the floor for the first dance. The other court couples soon joined in, kicking off a fun-filled night for all.
