Maine-Ly Harmony, Augusta Y Teaching Youths to Sing a Cappella

Summary

AUGUSTA -- Youngsters ages 10-18 will be learning to sing a cappella at the YMCA in Augusta this fall. Taught by members of Maine-ly Harmony women's a cappella barbershop singers, the chorus and the YMCA look forward to forming a youth chorus for interested students, which will perform at YMCA functions and Maine-ly Harmony shows.

Youth Outreach participants will get an introduction into reading music, taking their starting note from the key blown on a pitch pipe and learning several songs. Students will be placed in one of the four parts of barbershop harmony, based on their comfort range and which part they'd like to try: the melody (lead), high (tenor), low (bass) or middle range (baritone).
