LEWISTON -- Eugene Alexander Welenteichick Sr. (Lt. Col., U.S.A.F., retired), died Tuesday, April 19, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Nov. 30, 1923, the son of Joseph John and Malania Nutzij Welenteichick. On Jan. 13, 1951, he married Mary Eva Gilmore. He enlisted in the Navy and served three and a half years as a radio man on bombers and then enlisted in the Air Force, where he attended navigation school and was an instructor at Randolph Field. From navigation he went to weather and was transferred to Iceland, during which time he received his bachelor's degree in meteorology.
