Contaminants at Dam Site May Pose Risk

CANTON - The site for a new dam on Whitney Brook contains lead and arsenic, according to an environmental assessment that was reviewed Monday night by a local advisory committee.

The assessment by MACTEC Engineering and Consulting of Portland revealed three contaminants of concern: Lead, arsenic and poly- aromatic hydrocarbons, a chemical compound that is a byproduct of fuel burning.
