Average Bird Count in Western Foothills

Summary

NORWAY - For the 11th year a team of birders from the Western Foothills Land Trust identified as many species of birds as possible in three hours. The team collected pledges for a certain amount per species identified as well as fixed donations.

Respecting this spring's significant rainfall, the group somewhat altered its traditional route on the Van Nest Farm, meandering around muddied pastures through woodlands, open fields and several edge habitats. This year, 47 species of birds were identified during the event, an average count for the trust. Some years, as many as 55, or as few as 41 species have been recorded.
